Don't Forget To Look Up When Doing Yard Work.

Spring is showing up early here in Tucson – grass is starting to turn a slight shade of green, bushes are fluffing up and, the trees have been growing – even through the winter!

This means is yard work!  It’s time to take a look around your property and begin prepping it for the upcoming seasons – including monsoons that sometimes can show early.

Here are some tips:

Start by looking up – prune your trees and clear them away from roof eaves and roof tops!

Weeds.  If you live in an HOA – weeds are tops on the list of violations – so here are some tips especially for combatting weeds.

  • Pre-emergent is not a bad idea although many weeds have already begun pollenating and sprouting here in the desert.  Though it won’t take care of existing weeds, it will prevent more from growing.
  • Get a handle on weeds before they get out of control – easiest way – pull them or use a hula hoe and a rake.
  • Be cautious when using certain types of weed kill – lots of folks love a ground clear product –but it can be poisonous to breathe in because it lingers for months in the air.  Go green on chemicals and keep it safe for yourself and your pets.

After trimming, raking and mowing – be sure to give your plants some water – and plant food if you have flowers!

This is also the time of year that bugs start to emerge – if you have a lawn make sure when you aerate it, fertilize with a summer and bug guard afterwards.  Again, think about going green - natural chemicals such as chrysanthemum based bug treatments are much healthier than strong chemicals.  If you are unsure how to handle bugs - call a pest control company such as Arizona Pest to do it for you!

Consider hiring a landscaper – if you do not have time to handle the yard.  This is a suggestion I make to all my tenants.  Most landscape needs – such as weeds and trimming bushes – doesn’t take a landscaper much time – especially if done on a regular basis and isn’t ask expensive as you might think.
